Assistant Brewer

 

 

Hours:            Up to 40 per week (may occasionally include weekends and bank holidays)

Hours of work will typically be between 08:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday

 

Location:        Horsforth Brewery, 143 New Road Side, Horsforth, Leeds, LS18 4QD

 

Salary:            £19,000 - £22,000 per annum (dependant upon experience), paid monthly

Horsforth Brewery is run by innovative brewer Mark Costello supplying the local Horsforth and wider Leeds areas with tasty, vegan-friendly beers. Starting as a part-time project in Mark's garage back in 2017, the brewery progressed to its own unit in 2018 and now has a dedicated taproom as well as distributing beers nationwide.

 

The brewery is 5bbl with 5 fermenters, with a pilot kit for experimental brews. Proud of its wide range, Horsforth Brewery packages into kegs, cans and casks.

 

As part of the brewery’s growth, the role ofs Assistant Brewer has been created and is suited to someone with previous brewing experience who is passionate about beer, and keen to learn and develop the skills required in a craft brewery.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting in the brewing of beer and following recipes
  • CIP and sterilisation of the brewhouse
  • Assisting in wort production
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant record keeping and procedures (e.g. HMRC records, QC, and QA data recording)
  • Packaging beer into keg, cask, and can (via the in-house canning line)
  • Can labelling
  • Adhering to health and safety policies at all times (including correct recording of accidents and other incidents)
  • Data entry to brewing software

 

 

  • Taking pride in ensuring all ingredients and materials are monitored, maintained, and correctly stored
  • Supporting other team members
  • Representing Horsforth Brewery at trade exhibitions, events and tastings (sometimes during evenings and weekends)

 

 

Skills / Qualifications:

 

  • Previous brewing experience / brewing qualifications
  • Passionate about beer
  • Confident working in a brewery environment
  • Ability to safely lift 30kg kegs and 25kg malt sacks
  • Driver’s License
  • Punctual and reliable with a good work ethic
  • Great communication skills, and great ability to complete tasks delegated by the Head Brewer/Operations Manager
  • Ability to work on your own as well as part of a team within a small business
  • Permission to work in the UK
